Concerning the divisions of the portadores: Among the Korahites was Meshelemiah, son of Kore, from the sons of Asaph.
The sons of Meshelemiah were Zechariah, the firstborn; Jediael, the second; Zebadiah, the third; Jathniel, the fourth;
Elam, the fifth; Jehohanan, the sixth; and Elioenai, the seventh.
The sons of Obed-edom were Shemaiah, the firstborn; Jehozabad, the second; Joah, the third; Sacar, the fourth; Natanael, the fifth;
Ammiel, the sixth; Issachar, the seventh; and Peulthai, the eighth, for God had blessed him.
To Shemaiah, his son, were born sons who ruled over the house of their father, for they were mighty men of valor.
The sons of Shemaiah were Othni, Rephael, Obed, and Elzabad, whose brothers Elihu and Semachiah were also strong men.
All these were the sons of Obed-edom; they, their sons, and their brothers were capable, strong men for service, totaling sixty-two.
Meshelemiah had sons and brothers, strong men, numbering eighteen.
Hosah, from the children of Merari, also had sons: Simri, the chief (though not the firstborn, his father made him chief);
Hilkiah, the second; Tebaliah, the third; and Zechariah, the fourth. All the sons and brothers of Hosah numbered thirteen.
These were the divisions of the porters, with their chief men, who kept watch in the house of the Lord.
They cast lots, both small and great, according to the house of their fathers, for every gate.
The lot for the east fell to Shelemiah. They then cast lots for his son Zechariah, a wise counselor, and his lot came out for the north.
For Obed-edom, the lot was for the south, and for his sons, the guard of the storeroom.
For Shuppim and Hosah, the lot came out for the west, at the gate Shallecheth, on the pathway of the ascent, guard against guard.
On the east, were six Levites; on the north, four each day; on the south, four each day; and two and two toward the storeroom.
At Parbar to the west, there were four at the pathway, and two at Parbar.
These are the divisions of the porters among the sons of Kore and among the sons of Merari.
Among the Levites, Ahijah was responsible for the treasures of the house of God and the treasures of the dedicated things.
Regarding the sons of Laadan; from the Gershonite Laadan, the chief fathers, were Jehieli.
The sons of Jehieli were Zetham and Joel, his brother, who were responsible for the treasures of the house of the Lord.
Of the Amramites, Izharites, Hebronites, and Uzzielites;
Shebuel, son of Gershom, son of Moses, was the ruler of the treasures.
His brethren by Eliezer were Rehabiah, his son; Jeshaiah, his son; Joram, his son; Zichri, his son; and Shelomith, his son.
Shelomith and his brothers were in charge of all the treasures of the dedicated things, which King David and the chief fathers, the captains over thousands and hundreds, and the captains of the host had dedicated.
From the spoils won in battles, they dedicated to maintain the house of the Lord.
They also had charge of everything dedicated by Samuel the seer, Saul, son of Kish, Abner, son of Ner, and Joab, son of Zeruiah. All that anyone dedicated was under the charge of Shelomith and his brothers.
From the Izharites, Chenaniah and his sons were responsible for the external affairs of Israel, for officers and judges.
From the Hebronites, Hashabiah and his brothers, brave men, numbering one thousand and seven hundred, were officers among them of Israel on this side of the Jordan, westward, in all the service of the Lord and in the king’s affairs.
Among the Hebronites, Jerijah was the chief. As for the Hebronites, their genealogies and families were investigated in the fortieth year of King David’s reign, and among them were found mighty men of valor at Jazer of Gilead.
Their brothers, men of valor, were two thousand and seven hundred chief fathers, whom King David made rulers over the Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half tribe of Manasseh, for every matter pertaining to God and for the king’s affairs.
